A hugely significant example of Norman architecture that’s renowned across the country as Britain’s oldest cathedral, St. Albans Cathedral is a stunning structure. Dating back to 793, it still features much of the original Norman architecture, which was added some three-hundred years later in about 1077. The cathedral honors Alban, Britain’s first Christian martyr, who is thought to have been executed by the Romans in the late 3rd century.
Set over 100 acres, the magnificent Verulamium Park is one of St. Albans finest attractions. At the centre of its appeal is the park’s stunning lake, which is home to a considerable population of diverse waterfowl.
