Lancing is a large village of over 20,000 in the Adur Valley district of West Sussex in southern England, east of Worthing and west of Brighton.

Not far from Lancing, Herstmonceux Castle is one of the most impressive castles in all of England and also one of the nation’s oldest brick buildings. Built in the 15th century near Hailsham, the structure has been expertly restored and today it functions as a study centre. With lush gardens open to the public, the castle is a popular attraction with locals in Hailsham who come to enjoy the the countryside around the castle, which becomes filled with wildflowers each summer.

Nearby is Cissbury Ring, England’s largest hill fort and home to a Neolithic flint mine. Just outside the village are the Highdown Gardens, which contain a decent collection of rare plants and flowers.
