An area in north-west London, Yeading forms part of the London Borough of Hillingdon. The area is one of the older ones in London, with records dating back to 757 AD.

Yeading Dock was built along the Grand Union Canal in the 19th and 20th centuries, when the main industry was brickmaking, and the canal facilitated ease of transport to the desired location. Interestingly, Yeading was known in brickmaking circles for having workmen who often kept pigs as a second source of income. James Thorne noted in 1874 that the inhabitants of Yeading were ‘always found civil’. We’re assuming he’s referring to the humans, rather than pigs, on this occasion. 

The now defunct Yeading F.C. had their ground, The Warren, used for scenes in the popular film starring Keira Knightley, Bend it like Beckham, with the then commercial manager Bill Perryman given a small role in the film as a thank you.
